Sector Promotion in India - 2004

Basque Country and India collaborate In Electronics, Computing and Telecommunications

ITSMA has been collaborating during these years with GAIA, The Basque Country Association of Electronic and Information Technologies, a private and professional non profit-making institution that covers almost all companies developing electronic, computer and telecommunications products and services in the Basque Country.

ITSMA, is in charge of finding new Indian partners to develop joint projects with the basque companies belonging to these fields of activity. And some times is partner of some of the projects.

At the moment GAIA has 170 associated companies which are among the world leaders in areas such as: high voltage measurement transformers, CAD/CAM software and regulation and control systems for machine tools (oxygen cutting, plasma, laser, water jet and die casting machines, etc.), the supply of electric and electronic control and generating equipment for the wind power market, computerised solutions for protection against viruses and hackers, etc.

The Basque Country is also famous for the large number of satellite TV signal receiving equipment manufacturers and for being the home to the largest concentration of companies developing ERPs for SMEs using their own technology in the whole of Europe.

The work undertaken by Basque companies in other countries includes:

Unique power sources for the particle accelerator at the CERN laboratories (Switzerland) and the EFDA-JET experimental nuclear fusion reactor (United Kingdom).

Electronic-IT systems for balancing and protecting electricity networks. (Brazil, Mexico, France, U.K, Germany, South Africa, India, Portugal...).

Traffic and motorway access control systems (China…)

Emergency lighting and intelligent service management systems in many different unique buildings (Switzerland, Finland, Costa Rica, Czech Republic...).

Interactive telephone answering systems (United Kingdom, Germany…)

Multimedia tools and electronic equipment for training (Mexico, Brazil, Chile, France, Italy, Portugal, Malaysia, China, Vietnam... ).

Numeric controls (Germany, United Kingdom, Denmark, Switzerland, Poland, Canada...).

"Turnkey" automation for production lines in different sectors (paper, iron and steel, metal processing, refineries, drawing plants, etc.). (France, Switzerland, China, Indonesia, Mexico, Cuba, Peru, United States...).

e-government solutions for European institutions.

Automation software for quality control laboratories. (France, Germany,Mexico, United States, India...)

Collaboration of companies from the sector with technological centres, training centres, R&D+i units and companies from other sectors allows for local development of the latest products and services, providing effective tools for management and positioning in new markets and generating, supporting and strengthening other innovative agents.

This close collaboration also allows for the creation of excellent programmes and networks (SPORTIS - ITCs for sports, TIERNET - electronics applied to the car industry, etc.) that provide more appropriate sizes to compete on foreign markets, optimising their own resources.

The Sector is currently working most intensively on increasing the range of added value in the segments of: sports (management and control, electro-medical devices, etc.), automotive industry (modules and components for the automobile industry), e-inclusion/e-life (products/services for the disabled and the elderly), aeronautics (on-board electronic devices, electronic devices in control systems and in aircraft communications), home systems (control and automation of buildings and homes), power (control, safety, measuring and management of its distribution), transport (positioning, management, signalling, logistics of goods and people). However, there are also solutions for many other segments (food, banking, education, etc.).
